About Kenny Nyhus Fadil
Kenny Nyhus Fadil is the publisher behind mechkeyfoundry.com and a lifelong polymath whose benches range from welders to water chemistry — but the keyboard is the tool his hands know best, eight hours a day, every day. He builds and tunes his own boards in Sweden: switches lubed at a station that has processed thousands, stabilizers tuned past midnight, sound tests recorded the same controlled way every time.
Background
Kenny came to keyboards the way he comes to every bench — through the tools. The soldering iron that builds his sim-racing button boxes is the same one that migrated his first hotswap board to a soldered build; the same flux, the same hands, smaller screws. He has built through every tier of the hobby: hotswap starters, a self-assembled aluminum 65%, a budget 60% kept deliberately stock as the control board, and an Alice-layout experiment for the ergo-curious pieces.
He manages a network of niche websites focused on craftsmanship and hands-on testing, and publishes that network openly. MechKeyFoundry is the site where the smallest bench gets the most use.
Specialties
- Switch tuning — lubing, filming, and spring swaps with honest before/after verdicts from a lube station that has processed thousands of switches
- Stabilizer surgery — clip, lube, and band-aid methods, every generation of technique tried on his own boards
- Controlled sound testing — one mic, one distance, one desk, stated every time
- Board tiering — what $75 versus $200 versus $400 actually buys in mounting, feel, and QC
- Keycap profiles and materials — PBT and ABS verdicts from weeks of daily typing, not photos
Testing Approach
Every verdict on MechKeyFoundry comes from a board on Kenny’s own desk. Switch comparisons isolate the variable everyone else confounds — the same switch tuned versus stock, from drawers that hold both versions of everything. Sound tests use the same recording setup every time, because uncontrolled sound tests are the genre’s biggest lie.
