Soldering and Electrical Safety

Many guides on this site involve soldering, desoldering, and working on powered electronics. These activities carry real risks: burns from irons at working temperature, fumes from flux, damage to PCBs and components, and electrical hazards from mains-powered equipment. Before any soldering or electrical work:

  • Defer to the manuals. The instructions from your soldering station, keyboard, and tool manufacturers always take precedence over anything written here.
  • Ventilate. Solder and flux fumes should not be breathed at the bench — use ventilation or fume extraction.
  • Disconnect first. Never solder on or open a board that is connected to power or a computer.
  • Know your limits. If a repair or mod is beyond your comfort level, a damaged board is the cheap outcome — stop and seek help.

Modifying a keyboard (opening the case, soldering, firmware flashing) may void the manufacturer’s warranty. That is your decision and your responsibility.
